The Anchor Inn

April 2006 - The Anchor features with us once more as Whitbread brewery continue to upset local residents by trying to increase their commercial ventures with this rural pub. This time with proposed new signage (to advertise their late night disco's no doubt!). We feel the positioning of the large white sign immediately in front of the premises (just behind the wall in the above photo) will affect the style of the old building and is not appropriate for the locality. A second sign, just as large and just as bright will also be placed in the car park.

The sign on the car park initially placed without Planning Consent

The brewery have already created a stir amongst local residents with their late licence application to hold disco's etc until 1am. You can read the full story on our news page. Just to rub some salt in our wounds, the brewery erected these signs prior to any application being granted. They clearly believe themselves to be above the law and ITPAS will pursue this and associated matters vigorously.

In the meantime, if you wish to make comment of the above mentioned planning application, click here to visit the WBC planning details page where you can view the plans and click on the link to air your views. You can also email us with your thoughts.

ITPAS objection. Comments required by 11th May 2006

WBC Decision - REFUSED - further information will be published here shortly.

The second sign placed immediately in front of the historic building - again, without planning permission
