COUNTRY PUB OR NIGHT CLUB??? Scroll to the bottom of the page to read our letter requesting a review
The above photograph shows an idyllic rural pub - somewhere you can walk along to, have a nice drink, a quality meal, in pleasant surroundings. Sadly the new licensing laws introduced this week (24th November 2005) may have just pushed a serious change to where we live and the way we live in what we percieve to be a pleasant and quiet area! In what we were led to believe was a positive change for large Town and City Centre areas, we have now found out that a number of licensed premises in Irby, Thurstaston & Pensby have also jumped on the bandwagon and the Local Authority have actually permitted drinking until the early hours of the morning. In one case we are aware of the granting of a licence for 24 hours a day! (Hillbark House). At this moment in time, we intend to focus on The Anchor Inn, Irby. The reasons for this are that The Anchor is surrounded on two sides by residential properties. This establishment has been granted a licence to serve unitl 00.30hrs (half past midnight) - with drinking up time, this means customers will be leaving up to and after 1am!! is this acceptable? We say NO! Further conditions of the new licence have removed restrictions on other entertainment. This means they can play music, show films, hold indoor sporting events, have live entertainment, dance and make music - all till 1 o'clock in the morning! Whilst some might accept that this is part and parcel of the new legislation, which is designed to ease the mass of outlandish behaviour at 2am in a City Centre, we feel that The Councils Licensing department have been totally insensitive and uncaring to their communities in granting such a licence to a public house such as The Anchor. We also believe that there has not been proper consultation prior to the granting of such a licence and as such plan to challenge the legality of its issue. Keep calling back to this page as we will update our progress. In the meantime you can view all the applications for Wirral by clicking here. Interestingly, you will find many public houses have simply requested a licence until midnight! Do you have any concerns? email us with your views and thoughts. These have now been taken down and ITPAS still intend to object to to formal application. View details here.
