Thurstaston Pop Festival

We will be updating this page soon with a template letter of objection to assisit you....

This is NOT the scene we want to see at Thurstaston in May 2010, although an application by Gerard White and James Andrew Carr under the Licencing Act 2003 is already being processed! Public Consultation? Zero! Have the applicants taken any time out to consult with local residents? NO!

Residents will now have to take action to try to prevent this ludicrous idea coming to our doorstep. We have outlined below the objections that can be made and we shall post the address where you need to write. In the meantime, it maybe a good idea to contact you Councillors and MP.

The only indication that this application has been made is a small notice recently placed on a lamp post near to 'White's Farm'. Click on the thumbnail below for more info. Fortunately, ITPAS heard about this in advance and have had sometime to do some research. Now YOU must take action. Read below for the details we have so far.

The proposed event is as follows:-

bullet

28th, 29th & 30th May 2010

bullet

Plans to be an annual event

bullet

Parking for 7,500 cars

bullet

Campsite for 1500 tents

bulletLiquor licence 28 and 29 May until 1.30am and on 30 May from 9.30am to 1.00pm

Discussions are already under way within the events committee at Wirral Borough Council and Mr White and Mr Carr have applied for a liquor  licence to cover the event.

The gaining of the liquor licence is the first and most important step in the process and ITPAS and villagers have begun a campaign to try to prevent issue of the licence

The licence committee consider the merits of the application against a strict criteria:-

bullet

The Prevention of Crime & Disorder

bullet

Public Safety

bullet

Prevention of Public Nuisance

bullet

The Protection of Children from Harm

The festival will be based on the 'Wakestock' festival, which is held in Abersoch early July each year. There will be enormous disruption to villagers, church goers, visitors to the Country Park, Caravan Park and  Yacht Club on what is historically one of the busiest weekends in the calendar. This will be coupled with potentially a week either side of the event which will be required to set up and dismantle the facilities.

We also hear there are plans to bus thousands of festival goers to clubs in Liverpool after the licence period of each night/morning. This will entail a lot of buses accessing and exiting Thurstaston Village and surrounding area during the early hours and of course, those people will want to get back to their Cars / tents at Thurstaston at 5am later that morning no doubt.

There are countless other problems that will be caused by this application and we shall post more info here shortly. In the meantime, please start drafting your letters of objection, write to your Councillors (contact details below) and West Wirral MP Stephen Hesford.
