Rights Of Way

If you have any concerns or comments to make about rights of way in our area, please let us know. We will bring it to the attention of other organisations and the Wirral Council Rights of Way officer and/or any other Department that may need to be informed.

QUARRY COTTAGE - Obstruction of RoW

March 2007 - We are aware that at some stage in the last month or so, WBC took enforcement action and cut the chain on the gate. We applaud the officers for taking such positive action, but are saddened to report that the owner has since re-placed the lock and chain with a double chain wrapped around the gate post. Watch this space for updates!

November 2006 - ITPAS committee members have been monitoring this site for several months now. Despite warnings from the Council RoW officer, the owners have kept the gates locked. ITPAS have written to the RoW now asking that enforcement action be taken in view of the sudden lack of co-operation on the part of the owner of Quarry Cottage. We will keep you informed here.

For those of you who are unsure, Quarry Cottage is located off Hillbark Road, near to Irby Quarry. (see map below or co-ordinates SJ 25094 85966).

The cottage and outbuildings have been under renovation for sometime and now appear to be near, if not completed. A footpath runs alongside it and we believe at some stage this may have even been a bridle path. It would appear the owner is trying to claim the section of footpath from the road to the entrance of their current land, as their own. A gate has been erected at the entrance complete with name sign and a chain and padlock preventing the previous level of access to the path.

The general appearance, particularly to someone not familiar with the area, is that of private property - not a right of way. To that end, ITPAS will be involving as many other local interested groups as possible and complaining to the RoW officer about this intrusion over a point of access.

You can see from the photos below how much of the path has been claimed; the original entrance to the property and the general appearance it creates. To view the map, click on the thumbnail and Quarry Cottage is marked with a red flag.
