Sheep Attacks

Sheep killed by mindless thugs

18th December 2006

It was extremely disheartening to hear that a number of sheep grazing within the apparent safe confines of Benty Farm have been attacked in the last week.

Police seem to think this is more than just a stray dog and likely to be something more malicious than sheep rustling! Can you believe there are people who will do this intentionally?!!

Suspicious circumstances have been reported in other nearby areas, so we need to be a little more vigilant than usual, particularly if you live near or border open land where livestock may be being kept.

Particularly keep an eye out for small groups of people with dogs and torch/lamp lights, typically using vans and 4 x 4 type vehicles. They may use nearby car parks or quiet lanes to leave their vehicles and walk to a point to carry out their mindless acts!

If you suspect any such suspicious behaviour, immediately dial 999 and ask for the Police. Try and note descriptions of people, vehicles and dogs. If this may be too much, focus on one point - a car number is always useful as can often be traced to an individual and/or later stopped by Police.

If you have any information about such incidences then please contact someone via the following methods. You do not always have to leave your personal details:-

Detective Constable Steve Harris on 0151 777 2112
