No one can question the need for considering all options for improving Road Safety on Thingwall Road and Thingwall Road East and while the proposed scheme will have it’s supporters it will have consequences for our community which may be less beneficial.
There are four roads, plus some that
feed off them, that will have no alternative but to use our Main road if the
scheme goes ahead but it is an accepted fact that drivers will often seek an
alternative to daily treks over speed cushions if one exists. Residents in
Roslin and Bus Companies, and this is a main route, have been known to reduce or even withdraw services when driver’s complain of travelling over an intensive traffic calming scheme on a regular basis this proposal is certainly intensive. A number of shops in Irby have closed
and the village could decline further if residents from Emergency services could lose vital minutes getting to your home and if being taken to hospital the patient will get a rough perhaps life threatening journey also losing time along the way. If there is a traffic accident at the busy times because of the road narrowing features the road could easily become blocked in both directions and the emergency services would have extreme difficulty getting to the scene. Whatever scheme is put in place accidents will still happen. The scheme results from a Political Party inspired petition to Council of only 35 names. There has been no proper public consultation in Irby.
