ITPAS have not made any objections to the new plans for this junction. This is not for the sake of saying "lets just get something whilst we can". We believe that we should strive to get these long awaited junction improvements to serve a practical purpose for those using the crossroads and something in keeping with the area too. We believe after much pressure, the Council have listened to people's views and have put forward plans that will fulfill local wishes. At the same time, we are sure the planning/highways department have spent a considerable amount of time and effort in reaching this stage, as of course, they have to operate within their own guidelines too.

Despite the positive views we have about the plans, we have still provided a response as they do show considerable changes to lighting in the area and there do appear to be a number of trees to be felled. We have asked that any increase in lighting be kept to only what is necessary and not to be intrusive to nearby residents. We have also asked that careful consideration be given to the amount of trees that need to be felled and if possible, this be also kept to a minimum.

If you click on the above link and view the plans yourself, I am sure you will agree. However, if you have any comment to make, positive or negative, then please do email us.

LATEST: WIRRAL Council’s planning committee has (Thursday, August 25) approved proposals for a new roundabout scheme at Thurstaston.

Director of Technical Services at Wirral Council David Green said: “Road safety is a priority for the Council. With this roundabout we plan to reduce the speed limit on the approach to 30mph - making this junction much safer for both road users and pedestrians.

“Every effort is being made to ensure that the scheme is environmentally sound – we’ve been working closely with conservation officers and our proposals in keeping with the theme of the local landscape. We have been involved in a lengthy consultation with residents and land owners throughout the design process.”

Following planning approval, engineers are now authorised to purchase land, finalise plans and start work on the scheme. Land acquisition is a complicated process, but the Council hopes to complete it as soon as possible. Cabinet has authorised the use of compulsory purchase powers to acquire the land, should this be necessary.

The roundabout scheme itself should take approximately six months to build.

November 2006 - A recent article in the local press indicated that there have still been problems incurred in acquiring local land for the development of this roundabout. Worryingly, a date for completion is mentioned as being 2009!! We wondered why the Council failed to respond to our requests in May 2006 for an update - it took 3 months and 6 emails for a simple response!
