Option 1

 

 

Option 1: Fence outer perimeter of registered Common Land

Erect post and wire fence (DEFRA specification to a height of 1.2 metres) and improve existing stone walls where they exist, to provide a stock proof boundary enclosing the whole of the registered common land parcel of 37.6 hectares. Remove existing Paddock 3 and parts of Paddocks 1 and 2  Click Here to see Map 1

Advantages

bulletFull extent of open common maintained
bulletNo internal fences
bulletEnables extensive grazing

Disadvantages

bulletWalks onto neighbouring land owned by Wirral Borough Council at Royden Park and at Thurstaston Hill would be via kissing gates or stiles
bulletGrazing animals able to roam within woodland areas
bulletDog walkers uncertain where grazing animals might be and have to walk their dogs on a lead
bulletMay require more livestock than either options 2 and 3 to achieve heathland conservation
bulletMay not achieve favourable conservation outcomes
