Option 2: Fence new grazing paddock 4 (12.47 hectares)

Erect 1,200 metres of new stock fence to DEFRA specification to a height of 1.2 metres to form new Grazing Paddock 4 (total perimeter 1,600 metres and total area 12.47 hectares) - Click here to see Map 2

Retain existing fenced enclosure known as Paddock 3

Retain existing fence forming part of existing enclosure known as Paddock 2 which is on the common land.

Retain existing fenced forming part of existing enclosure known as Paddock 1 which is on common land

Advantages

bulletFence line located in the edge of fringing woodland and therefore is not visually intrusive
bulletNo fences separating wooded part of common from Royden Park and ridge path to Thurstaston Hill
bulletEnables extensive grazing over the larger part of the heathland on the north part of the common between April and October
bulletAvoids grazing animals roaming in the woodland areas
bulletClearer to dog walkers where grazing animals are and opportunities to take walks in woodlands without dogs having to be on a lead
bulletKissing gates would be provided on all main paths and stiles on minor desire lines
bulletMay provide additional opportunities for ground nesting birds to breed
bulletAchieves favourable conservation outcomes

Disadvantages

bulletSome additional restrictions over current access arrangements – new kissing gates and stiles
bulletIncrease in the number and length of internal fences
