Progress report & Proposed Wind Turbine
May 2008 - Most people will be pleased to have seen the long awaited further improvement work on the paths between Thurstaston and Heswall. This has now been completed and makes life much easier even after heavy rainfall!!
On a lower note, the objective to source external funding to improve the ageing visitor centre was unsuccessful. We suspect the efforts to see this project through though, will not have gone away.
Just one of the issues with the current visitor centre include the method & cost of heating which is provided by an oil burning system. Wirral Borough Council Officers Mike Callon (Project Development Officer) and Andrew Snow (Energy Conservation Engineer) met with the ITPAS committee earlier this year to discuss one of their proposals to improve this situation.
The suggestion of a wind turbine immediately provoked feelings of uncertainty and objection given the nature of the landscape and the ongoing problems of the day. However, such feelings were soon put to rest when the finer details plus the reasoning behind the proposal (please remember this is only a proposal at this time), were demonstrated to us at an ITPAS Committee meeting. This included the style and size of the proposed turbine, nothing like the one's we are used to seeing out on Burbo Bank or Hoyle.
